Second Draft

Pour Yourself a Second Draft

Second Draft the blog gets its name from Second Draft the drink, which I invented both to come up with a way of using some Chartreuse that was sitting in our liquor cupboard and because I hate revising.

Second Draft the drink is not for the faint of heart, and definitely not for the sort of person who thinks that any drink tasting of chocolate can have the word “martini” in its name. You’ve been warned.

Second Draft

  1. Into a well-iced cocktail shaker pour one ounce of gin (Plymouth is my choice).
  2. Add 3/4 ounce of green Chartreuse.
  3. Add 1/4 ounce sweet white vermouth.
  4. Shake until chilled.
  5. Strain into a cocktail glass.
  6. Garnish with one or two sweet pickled onions.

The best pickled onions for this drink are those in which the brine contains allspice berries. I get mine from my friend Liza.
